Micro-learning explained

Learning in small, focused steps.

Micro-learning means learning one clearly defined topic in a short, focused format — instead of a long course that covers everything at once. Each unit has a precise goal, so you know exactly what you will be able to do afterwards, and you can put it into practice straight away.

Because the units are short, they fit around work and family life. Over time, you can combine several of them into your own learning path — for a new role, a career change or simply more confidence in daily life.

How our seminars follow it

  • Clear learning outcomes — every seminar names four things you will be able to do.
  • A small, defined volume of learning — two to four days on one topic.
  • Transparent information — content, audience, length, fee and language are published before you book.
  • Relevant content — topics follow the skills that work and everyday life demand, renewed through our EU-funded projects.
  • Learner-centred — small groups that start from your own questions and cases, with a certificate of participation at the end.
The European approach

Micro-credentials for lifelong learning

In June 2022, the Council of the European Union adopted a Recommendation on a European approach to micro-credentials for lifelong learning and employability. It defines a micro-credential as “the record of the learning outcomes that a learner has acquired following a small volume of learning”, and sets common standards so that short courses can be understood, trusted and recognised across Europe.

The Recommendation sets out ten principles for designing and issuing micro-credentials:

  • Quality
  • Transparency
  • Relevance
  • Valid assessment
  • Learning pathways
  • Recognition
  • Portable
  • Learner-centred
  • Authentic
  • Information and guidance

It also lists the standard information every micro-credential should describe — including the learning outcomes, the workload, the type of assessment, the form of participation and the quality assurance behind it.
