Convincing with factual arguments: clear, fair and fact-checked

Make your point clearly and fairly — and answer opinions with facts.

Why this seminar matters

In discussions at work, in politics and online, the loudest opinion often wins. Clear, fact-based arguments — and the ability to spot misleading claims — help people be heard and keep debates fair.

What you will learn

  • Build clear, logical arguments
  • Check facts and sources
  • Respond calmly to counter-arguments
  • Spot manipulation and misleading claims

The seminar programme

The seminar is built around four modules. Each one combines a short input with practical exercises, so you apply what you learn straight away.

Module 1

Build clear, logical arguments

Claim, reason and evidence: how to structure an argument so that others can follow it — in a meeting, a discussion or in writing.

Module 2

Check facts and sources

Simple fact-checking techniques, judging the reliability of sources and recognising when numbers are used out of context.

Module 3

Respond calmly to counter-arguments

Listening, asking questions and answering objections with facts instead of escalating — including in heated discussions.

Module 4

Spot manipulation and misleading claims

Common rhetorical tricks and fallacies, misleading statistics and online disinformation, and how to respond to them.

How we work

Discussion exercises, short debates and analysis of real examples from media and social networks. You practise both making arguments and taking them apart.

What you take home

  • An argument structure you can use in any discussion
  • A fact-checking checklist
  • A list of common fallacies and how to answer them
  • More confidence in heated discussions

Who it is for

Learners, employees and engaged citizens. No prior knowledge is needed — we start from your own questions and cases.

Practical details

  • Length: two to four days on site in Vienna, depending on the group
  • Group size: from eight participants
  • Language: German or English, set per group
  • Fee: €220–€400 per person, depending on length — we help you look for funding
  • Certificate of participation for every participant

Try this before the seminar

Before you share a striking claim online, look for the original source and the date. Many misleading posts fall apart at this first step.

Join the next group

Pre-register by email to training@acceleras.io with the seminar name. A pre-payment reserves your place, and we confirm the dates as soon as eight participants have joined. After your first seminar you also get free access to seminars from our EU-funded projects.
