The Integrated Sustainability Workbook is out — in seven languages
Our first X-VET result is ready: a practical guide for embedding sustainability in vocational schools and training centres, free to download in English, German, Croatian, Italian, Latvian, Slovak and Serbian.
The first result of X-VET is ready. The Integrated Sustainability Workbook is a practical guide for embedding sustainability strategies into the governance, curricula and operations of institutions in vocational education and training (VET). It was finalised in July 2026 and can now be downloaded free of charge in all seven project languages: English, German, Croatian, Italian, Latvian, Slovak and Serbian.
We led the development of the Workbook in the first phase of the project, together with Tehnička škola Pirot and with contributions from all X-VET partners.

What is inside
The Workbook has 215 pages in four parts. Part I explains why sustainability and the twin green and digital transition matter for VET, sets out the European policy context and introduces the whole-organisation approach. Part II presents the X-VET Framework: ten integrated sustainability competences, each described in terms of skills, knowledge and attitudes at three levels of mastery — basic, intermediate and advanced. Part III turns the framework into action with a 10-step process model, and Part IV shares best practices and case studies collected by the partners.
The 10-step process model
- Institutional readiness
- Stakeholder engagement
- Sustainability roadmap
- New teaching and learning approaches
- Green and digital curriculum
- Entrepreneurial initiatives
- Work-based learning
- Monitoring and evaluation
- Communicating progress
- Long-term sustainability
The steps build on one another, but an institution that has already started its transition can enter at the step that matches its situation.
Who it is for
Institutional leaders can start with Part I and work through Part III together with their teams. Educators and trainers may begin with the competences on teaching, digital tools and work-based learning and with steps 4 to 7, while coordinators and quality staff will work mainly with Part III and return to Part II to develop the competences each step requires.
How it was developed
The partners revised and piloted the draft before finalising it in July 2026; the second transnational partner meeting, in Riga in July 2026, focused on this work. The Workbook is the foundation for the other X-VET results, from the MOOC to the hackathons and the certification.
