X-VET: our implementation journey
From the first online meeting to the first published result: how X-VET is moving forward, milestone by milestone. We add each new step to this post as the project goes on.
X-VET — Integrated Sustainability for the Effective Navigation of Emerging Critical Transformations (Green, Digital & Economic) — is an Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership in vocational education and training (KA220-VET, project number 2025-1-DE02-KA220-VET-000352279). It runs from November 2025 to October 2028. Seven organisations in Germany, Austria, Croatia, Italy, Latvia, Slovakia and Serbia work together to make sustainability a lived part of vocational education. Werkstatt-Berufskolleg Unna coordinates the project; we are the Austrian partner and lead the work on the first result, the Integrated Sustainability Workbook.
This post follows the project from its first meeting to its final results. We update it after each milestone: partner meetings, events and the launch of results.
Where X-VET stands (October 2026)
Done: the kick-off, two transnational partner meetings and the first result — the Integrated Sustainability Workbook, published in seven languages. Under way: the X-VET MOOC. Still to come: the hackathons toolkit and local hackathons, and the X-VET certification aligned with EU micro-credentials.
27 October 2025 · Online pre-kick-off
A few days before the official start, the seven partners met online for the first time. Each organisation presented itself, its experience and its role in X-VET, and the meeting prepared the ground for the first meeting in person.

1 November 2025 · X-VET starts
The project officially began, for 36 months until 31 October 2028. It is co-funded by the European Union through Erasmus+ and managed through the German National Agency at BIBB (NA beim BIBB). Its aim: help VET institutions, educators and learners navigate the green, digital and economic transitions together.

10–11 December 2025 · TPM1 in Vienna
The first transnational partner meeting took place in Vienna. Werkstatt-Berufskolleg Unna opened it together with us as the Austrian partner. Over two days the partners went through the whole work plan: project management; Phase 1, the Integrated Sustainability Workbook, presented by ACCELERAS and Tehnička škola Pirot; Phase 2, the X-VET MOOC, presented by HOTEL SCHOOL Hotel Management College and ICEP; Phase 3, the sustainability hackathons, presented by POU Čakovec; and Phase 4, dissemination, sustainability and certification.

In small-group workshops the partners discussed the structure of the Workbook and which partner contributes to which chapter, and worked on practical questions for the hackathons. Since then, the partners have met online every month.
1–2 July 2026 · TPM2 in Riga
The second transnational partner meeting was hosted by HOTEL SCHOOL Hotel Management College in Riga, Latvia. It focused on the Workbook — revising the draft, piloting it and preparing editing, translation and publication — and on the concept and development plan for the X-VET MOOC. The partners also reviewed their dissemination so far: national activities should be expanded in every partner country, and European-level activities tracked more consistently. An article about X-VET was published on EPALE, the European platform for adult learning.

July 2026 · Workbook finalised
After the pilot and revision, the partners finalised the Integrated Sustainability Workbook. It moved into final editing and translation, and work on the X-VET MOOC began, with every partner contributing modules in its field of expertise.
25 August 2026 · Awareness session in Vienna
We introduced X-VET to emerging professionals and apprentices in Vienna, with short talks, open discussion and a design-thinking mini hackathon in the format that X-VET is developing for VET institutions. The participants gave very positive feedback. The full story is on our blog: “Awareness session in Vienna: sustainability, jobs and enterprises”.

10 September 2026 · First result published: the Integrated Sustainability Workbook
The Workbook — 215 pages, ten integrated sustainability competences and a 10-step process model — is now free to download in English, German, Croatian, Italian, Latvian, Slovak and Serbian, under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 licence. More on our blog: “The Integrated Sustainability Workbook is out — in seven languages”.

22 September 2026 · X-VET at a sustainability seminar in Latvia
HOTEL SCHOOL Hotel Management College presented the X-VET approach and tools at an Erasmus+ training on sustainability organised by VIAA, Latvia’s State Education Development Agency.

Coming next
The X-VET MOOC is in development: its soft launch starts in August 2027, with pilot courses first, and it will then be open to everyone, free of charge. Later in the project come the hackathons toolkit and local hackathons in the partner countries, and the X-VET certification aligned with the European approach to micro-credentials. The partners will meet in person again at the next transnational meeting. We will add each step here.
