VET: Experiential Sustainability Education for VET Learners to Better Navigate Green, Digital and Economic Transformations

Project details

Overview:
The X-VET (Integrated Sustainability for Vocational Education and Training) project aims to transform VET institutions by embedding sustainability into their governance, curricula, and training processes. Through the development of innovative tools such as the Integrated Sustainability Workbook, MOOC, and Hackathon Guide, along with certification protocols aligned with EU micro-credentials, X-VET supports VET leaders, educators, and learners in developing green and digital skills essential for the Twin Transition. These results will empower institutions to drive systemic change, foster innovation, and build inclusive, future-ready VET ecosystems.

Challenge:
VET institutions across Europe often struggle to adapt to sustainability and digital transformation simultaneously. Educators and institutional leaders lack the tools, training, and confidence to integrate green and digital competencies into their teaching and governance. Learners—especially in underserved regions—miss out on skills needed for green jobs and sustainable entrepreneurship. X-VET addresses these gaps through structured, accessible, and multilingual resources designed to meet diverse needs and contexts.

Solution:
X-VET tackles these challenges by co-developing and piloting a scalable, competency-based sustainability education framework for VET. The project will deliver:
Integrated Sustainability Workbook: A practical guide for embedding sustainability strategies into VET governance, curricula, and operations.
Integrated Sustainability MOOC: A modular, gamified online learning course offering tailored tracks for VET leaders, educators, and learners.
Integrated Sustainability Hackathons: A toolkit and implementation model to foster real-world sustainability innovation in VET institutions.
Certification Protocols: Competency-based validation of green and digital skills aligned with EU micro-credentials.
All resources will be available online, multilingual, and designed for adoption beyond the project’s lifetime.

Objectives:
Enable Sustainability Integration in VET
: Equip leaders and educators with knowledge, tools, and confidence to implement sustainability-focused, learner-centered teaching and governance practices.
Build Local Innovation Capacity: Pilot sustainability hackathons and experiential entrepreneurship activities in partner countries to test new models of collaborative learning and problem-solving.
Foster Long-Term Impact: Ensure sustainability through localized translations, stakeholder training, certification frameworks, and alignment with EU green and digital policies.
Promote Inclusion: Make sustainability education accessible to learners from diverse and underserved backgrounds, preparing them for future green careers and entrepreneurship.
